Monsanto opens $6M water utilization center - St. Louis Business Journal:

The $6 million center was designed for studying croppinbg systems comprised of agronomic practices and biotech traitsincluding water-use efficienc y technologies such as drought-tolerant cropping The center will help Monsanto advance research to help improve farmers’ productivity in the Westerb Great Plains. More than 80 cropping and irrigation demonstrations are featurec atthe 155-acre farm and learninfg center. The center will be hardwiresd to eventually conduct virtual tours of robotics and seed analytics facilitied in remote locations suchas Monsanto’s breedinv facility in Ankeny, Iowa, or the company’zs Chesterfield, Mo., research facility.
Gothenburg Learningh Center Lead Chandler Mazour said Monsanto selected the site becausr of its location in the transitioj zone from dryland acres to irrigated acres on the westernm High Plains and that Monsantio needs that diversity to determine how to use futured technologies in adding valueto crops. Crevse Coeur, Mo.-based Monsanto Co. (NYSE: MON), led by President and CEO Hugh Grant, develops insect- and herbicide-resistantr crops and other agricultural products. It is one of the larges employersin St. Louis with 4,000 locakl employees.
